Connecting the emotional with the political. Being open to intuition and imagination, to the wisdom gleaned from trauma, my own as well. With my wit and sensitivity in tow.
Vulnerability is an endangered species of sorts, as is empathy. While it is a crucial element of being human, vulnerability can easily be overemphasized as trendy or made to seem too polished. Instead, it is edgy, risky, and often messy.
In the book, I explore the political, social, and deeply personal aspects of vulnerability as it overwhelms and is both hated and denied.
Topics include wrongful convictions, racism, critical race theory, the roots of empathy, climate psychology, and distress, skipped history, as well as discussions with the children of Erik Erikson and Kurt Vonnegut.
